This year has been tough on a lot of people. Canadians have been separated for months during the pandemic, and nothing has been the same. Catherine MacLellan and Tara MacLean’s song “This Storm” is a ray of sunshine for anyone who’s still struggling though.

The two singers and songwriters from Prince Edward Island teamed up to create a song that was hopeful, and the video features family, friends, and essential service workers and first responders.

It’s a beautiful folk song, with so much heart, beautiful lyrics, and it’s a fitting tribute to the families and people who’ve been struggling. The duo have the perfect vocals together, and it also makes me hope they will pair up again for more music.

“For me, this song is about connecting,” MacLellan said. “It’s a reminder to have patience and to know that in time all wounds are healed. There are moments, especially now, when we can’t be with those we love, but we can always reach out. We will find ways to be with one another, in person, virtually or spiritually.”

“We can’t always be together in a crisis,” MacLean said, “but it can connect us and create even closer bonds with those we love, no matter how far apart we are.”

Their fathers, Gene MacLellan and Marty Reno, wrote and toured together for decades, so it seems only natural that the two would work together to lift spirits.
