Explore the magic of Disneyland Paris: Why Europe’s most visited theme theme park is a must-see

by W. Andrew Powell

Disneyland Paris has it all, and there are lots of reasons that make it so popular. A short trip from the heart of Paris–one of the most incredible cities in the world–the resort blends the best of Disney with European charm.

Between Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World, there’s so much to see and do, and many rides and experiences that you can only find at these two parks.

Disneyland Paris is located in Marne-la-Vallรฉe, just outside the city of Paris. An easy trip from almost anywhere in the United Kingdom and Europe; you can drive, or get there by train. It’s a 40 minute train ride from the heart of Paris, 3 hours by train from London, and a little over 5 hours from Frankfurt.

And there are lots of details that make it a classic theme park.

Disneyland Paris’ Sleeping Beauty Castle is considered the most beautiful castle across all the Disney parks, and it has something very special hidden underneath: La Taniรจre du Dragon, or the Lair of the Dragon. Inside the dark dungeon you’ll find a sleeping dragon: the one and only Maleficent. Watch out though, she might wake up!

The parks share a number of attractions that are similar to other Disney parks around the world as well, but many of the rides have their own twists on the classics. A few examples include Phantom Manor, a French take on the Haunted Mansion; Big Thunder Mountain, set on an island; the maze, Aliceโ€™s Curious Labyrinth; the original Ratatouille: The Adventure; and Avengers Campus. Each has something special that you won’t find anywhere else, and there are lots more rides and experiences.

There is also one big new reason to visit Disney Adventure World: new to the parks, World of Frozen offers a whole town that should look very familiar. Opened earlier this year, the themed land takes you inside Arendelle, complete with the village, castle, characters, and a restaurant.

Take a ride on Frozen Ever After, enjoy the show at A Celebration in Arendelle, meet Anna and Elsa, or Mossie the troll, and maybe even see Olaf walking around the village. The whole land looks like it leapt right off the screen, and it’s filled with amazing details.

And don’t forget to try some “Arendellean” delicacies before you leave at Nordic Crowns Tavern.

Something that I also think is very exciting is that you’ll get to experience actual seasons in Paris. Spring, summer, fall, and winter are all going to offer something different in Paris, and that’s even reflected in the kinds of fun Disney clothing you can buy at the stores, from jackets to scarves, hats, and sweaters.

If you’re visiting Disneyland Paris in the summer, it’s going to be hot, but in spring and fall you will want a sweater or a jacket and hat, and in winter there will probably be snow. As a Canadian, that sounds pretty amazing, to be honest. Some of my favourite photos of Disneyland Paris are when it’s been covered in snow; especially the castle. Imagine celebrating Christmas at Disneyland with actual snow on the ground; it can happen!

The Parisian parks are also a little more flamboyant than other destinations. All the shows and parades feature a lot of music and dancing, and when you sit down to eat expect to enjoy European-style food offerings like a croque madame instead of a grilled cheese, and so much more.

There are also lots of festivals and celebrations throughout the year. From late September until November 1 this year you can enjoy Disney Halloween Festival with Disney Villains and Mickey & Friends bringing some spooky vibes to the parks.

Early November until the start of January, 2027 features a festive holiday theme for Disney Enchanted Christmas. And there are special events for spring and summer, too.

Disneyland Paris

Whether you’re a long-time Disney fan looking for a new adventure, or you’re just dreaming of a fun experience with your family, Disneyland Paris is filled with magic and wonder, parades, fireworks, and something for everyone.

Lastly, it’s worth mentioning the accommodations, as there is a really wide range of options. For the dream stay, you should consider a Disney resort hotel like Disneyland Hotel, or Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, the only Marvel-themed hotel at any Disney property.

Or there’s the fan-favourite Disney Hotel Cheyenne, but there are lots of options, including cabins at Disney Davy Crockett Ranch. Plus, when you book at any Disney park hotel, your park tickets are included with your stay!

There are also a number of other nearby hotels in Marne-la-Vallรฉe that are just a bus ride away, so you can stay close to the parks.

Watch out for my coverage of Disneyland Paris later this year! Until then, I recommend planning at least three nights to stay and enjoy the parks and resort. Plan your trip to arrive by mid-day, check into your hotel, and then grab dinner and explore Disney Village, the entertainment and shopping area at Disneyland.

That gives you two days to explore the parks after that, and then check out on your fourth day, ideally with time to have breakfast before you go and enjoy time at your hotel, too.

No trip would be complete without time to enjoy Paris, while you’re in town, and while you’re in the region I would also highly recommend making time to explore more of France.
