Ardbeg’s distinctly punk Ardcore whisky, and the annual Ardbeg Day celebrations

Ardbeg Day is nearly here, and while there’s a new whisky expression coming to celebrate, I’m still toasting last year’s delicious special release.

Last June the distillery launched Ardbeg Ardcore, a unique and rare Scotch whisky with a punk rock theme. The incredible whisky is spicy and rich, with flavours of dark chocolate and smoke, finished off with toffee and a lingering kiss that’s wonderfully sweet.

Made with roasted black malt, which is a first for Ardbeg, the liquid is beautiful, pale gold, and the whisky also boasts an impressive aroma of chicory, coffee, smoke, and a hint of burnt sugar.

Ardbeg suggested that they drew inspiration from “Islay’s little-known punk past, celebrating the characters of ‘Punk Ellen’–the alleged nickname for Islay’s main port, Port Ellen, in the 1970s,” as well as their fans’ devil-may-care attitude.

In Canada, you can currently find this unique Scotch whisky at the LCBO in Ontario for $233, and Manitoba Liquor Mart has the whisky for $227.

This year, Ardbeg Day 2023 will celebrate with a special event in Toronto on June 3, “the ultimate global celebration of your favourite, peaty single malt Scotch,” and featuring the new special edition, Heavy Vapours.

Ardbeg Day 2023 is on Saturday, June 3 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Toronto’s Black Pearl (184 Pearl Street Toronto, ON M5H 1L5). Visit the event page to buy tickets.
