Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye whisky is a bold, spectacular treat

Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye

Alberta Premium is one of my favourite Canadian rye whiskies. The golden spirit makes a great cocktail. Nothing prepared me though for Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye.

This is a bold, beautiful whisky with a lot of complexity, and it’s still smooth and silky, with a wonderful finish.

At 63.5% alcohol, the whisky is surprising, and it’s also fantastic any way that you want to try it. It’s rich and almost meaty when you sip it neat, with layers of flavour. On the rocks, the melting ice really opens up the flavours in unexpected ways, making it surprisingly sweet, like dried fruit and vanilla.

And, yes, you can absolutely mix it for a unique cocktail with that big, spicy flavour. I really enjoyed in an Old Fashioned, but it’s a treat every way that I tried it.

When you first sip the Cask Strength Rye, especially neat, it has a lot of heat, like cinnamon, followed by a sweet hint of chocolate, and a nice warm finish, while the second sip, flavours lingered longer and reminded me of creamy caramel. It’s really made to be enjoyed slowly, to appreciate each and every nuance of the bright spirit.

Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye is aged for a minimum of 5 years and it’s made in Calgary, Alberta with Canadian Prairie rye grains, and water from the Rocky Mountains. It’s a recipe that’s easy to love.

Alberta Distillers made their Cask Strength whisky available in limited quantity in Canada, and if you can find a bottle, you really need to try it.

The award-winning whisky, that took home Double Gold at the 2022 SIP Awards, retails for $89.45 in Canada, and it’s a spectacular gift for yourself, or a loved one. Better yet, pick up two bottles so you can have one for yourself and one as a gift. I would just remind you to actually give that gift though because any whisky lover will really appreciate Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye.

Visit the Alberta Distillers website for more on Alberta Premium and their other spirits, and for whisky lovers in Ontario check the LCBO for availability.

“Our cask strength release has continued to capture the attention of whisky enthusiasts globally and is something we’re delighted to bring back this year,” said George Teichroeb, General Manager of Alberta DistillersLtd. “For distillers like myself, cask strength whiskies are where we get to demonstrate our skill and craftsmanship, as the final product is completely unadulterated.
