The rainy days of spring are here, and since it’s a very quiet week for new releases, I thought it was a fine opportunity to count down ten of my favorite rainy day movies. Which may make you wonder–what makes a great rainy day movie? If you ask me, it all comes down to rewatchability, brilliant casting, great writing, and off-the-wall stories.
Alex Proyas
Available this week on DVD, Nicolas Cage tries to unravel the dark truth behind a collection of mysterious numbers in Knowing, in The Unborn a young woman is tormented by an evil spirit set upon her family during the days Nazi Germany, and Push has an artificially enhanced young duo trying to bring down the dark agency that created them.
Science fiction and film noir collide in Alex Proyas’ classic Dark City, which arrives this week in a fresh director’s cut, complete with extended footage and slightly enhanced visual effects. Also arriving this week on DVD is the dramatic comedy Smart People, Asian-horror knock-off One Missed Call, and comedy film-noir, Watching The Detectives.
