Samsung went virtual once again for their Unpacked event, unveiling the new Samsung S21 5G, S21+ 5G, and S21 Ultra 5G, and their new premium earbuds, Galaxy Buds Pro.

In addition to a number of new features and enhanced hardware, Samsung also revealed that you can now optionally buy the S Pen with the S21 Ultra 5G, for taking notes, editing, or remote control, and a new S Pen Pro will launch later this year.

Featuring Samsung’s “fastest chip ever” for Galaxy, and an “epic camera” that’s made to create cinematic video and professional-looking photos, the S21 phone series are also made with a full metal housing that protects the camera plate, for added durability.

Looking at the displays for the series, all three phones have a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, with Galaxy S21 5G sporting a 6.2″ display, S21+ 5G has a 6.7″ display, and the S21 Ultra 5G offers a 6.8″ display. The adaptive display also uses the best refresh rate for the content you’re watching, up to 120Hz.

Both the S21 and S21+ phones have identical cameras, with a 12 MP ultra wide camera, 12 MP wide-angle camera, and 64 MP telephoto camera, as well as a 10 MP Selfie camera. The phones will also include 8 GB of RAM, and the option of 128 GB or 512 GB of storage space. In terms of battery life, the S21 has a 4,000 mAh battery, while the S21+ has 4,800 mAh.

For camera fanatics, the S21 Ultra, however, has a 40 MP selfie camera, and a rear array that includes a 108 MP wide-angle camera, 12 MP ultra wide camera, and dual-10 MP telephoto cameras. Those cameras work with advanced software to provide features like Zoom Lock, and an improved Night Mode. The S21 Ultra will come with 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, the option of 128 GB or 512 GB of storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery.

In addition, the S21 Ultra includes Wi-Fi 6E, for improved connectivity, ultra-wideband capabilities, and dual Bluetooth.

In terms of software, the phone series have an improved 8K Video Snap mode, a smoother Super Steady mode, a Director’s View during video filming to switch between cameras, a Vlogger’s View for front and rear video recording at the same time, and multiple mic recording.

Samsung also unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, for a more premium audio experience. Buds Pro look similar to Galaxy Buds Live, but the Pro model is sleeker, with a metallic finish, and improved audio performance.

Using System in Package design, Samsung has integrated a tweeter and a woofer together for improved audio quality over the Buds Live. Beyond better sound, the earbuds recognize head movement, and have improved active noise cancelling over the Buds Live, too. Intelligent ANC also recognizes conversation to allow you to hear what’s important, without turning the earbuds off.

Galaxy Buds Pro will last for up to 5 hours with ANC on, or 8 hours with ANC off, plus they offer 20 hours of reserve power using the case.

The Galaxy S21 5G series of phones are available for preorder now and will be available in Canada on January 29.
