Last minute holiday gift ideas for the tech obsessed | Holiday Gift Guides

by W. Andrew Powell

The holiday season is here, and if you’re looking for one last gift for the tech obsessed person in your life, or the next gadget you need for yourself, I’ve got you covered with some of this year’s top devices.

From phones and a gaming TV, to tools, smart audio, earbuds, and a neon sign, these are gift ideas for just about anyone on your list.

DJI Action 2 | Starting at $399

Action cameras have evolved, and the new DJI Action 2 is one of my favourites for versatility, size, and all of the ways you can use it.

The 4K camera captures up to 120fps, it’s just 56 grams, and fits in almost any pocket. Using a magnetic system, the camera can attach to a front touchscreen, that extends battery life, an extra battery, or mounting options like a wearable lanyard, a ballpoint adapter, or a remote control extension handle. The Action 2 is even waterproof to 33 feet underwater.

Capturing up to 155° super-wide FOV, it’s the perfect camera to take on the next adventure, and it’s a lot of fun to see what you can do with it next.

Hisense 55″ U78G 4K ULED Android TV | $1,198

From the price, to the features, the quality, and all of the ports, the Hisense 55″ U78G 4K ULED Android TV is a fantastic addition to any living room or office.

Featuring Quantum Dot technology, the TV is bright, clear, and delivers stunning picture quality, whether you’re watching the latest streaming series, taking on Halo Infinite with the Xbox Series X, or watching a 4K Blu-ray.

The U78G offers 1000 nits peak brightness, Dolby Visions IQ and Dolby Atmos, HDR10+, Filmmaker mode, up to 120 fps, and IMAX Enhanced to optimize sound, colour, brightness.

And on top of everything else, the TV has lots of inputs to connect speakers, cable, headphones, USB, and 4 HDMI ports.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 | $1,399

There’s simply no other phone like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. The folding design means it can fit in your shirt pocket, and then open it up for a 6.7″ display for streaming their favourite videos and content. The phone also captures beautiful photos and video with the dual 12 MP cameras, offers 8 GB of RAM, and has a number of very sharp looking cases to keep it safe.

The Bespoke edition also lets you customize the phone colours, to get the perfect design to match your style, and on top of all of that, the phone is packed with Samsung’s incredible features, like the cover display, Flex mode, reverse wireless charging, and lots more.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 & Galaxy Buds Pro | $189 & $264

The best phone also means you need the best wireless audio, and two of my favourite earbuds are the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, and the Galaxy Buds Pro.

Priced affordably, and with loads of features, the Buds 2 and Buds Pro offer excellent sound quality, a fun range of colours, and active noise cancellation for any environment.

The Buds 2 are a great option for everyone, from kids to adults, with up to 20 hours of play time using the case to recharge, and they auto switch between Galaxy devices for anyone on-the-go.

Alternatively, the Buds Pro offer IPX7 water resistance, voice detect for enabling ambient sound for conversations, and 2-way speakers featuring dynamic 360 audio for exceptional audio quality.

Google Nest Hub with Sleep Sense | $129

Google’s Nest smart speakers are fantastic additions to your home, whether you want to play music, or get access to the Google Assistant for quick answers and helpful tips.

With Google Nest Hub though, you get a smart speaker and a smart display, so you can control your smart home with one touch, display your favourite photos, and even track your sleep with Sleep Sensing.

The 7-inch LCD touchscreen is bold and dynamic, and it’s great in the kitchen, to look up recipes, or place it on your desk and watch YouTube videos. It also makes a fantastic bed-side assistant, so you can use it as your alarm clock, and in the morning it provides details of your sleep patterns.

Ekster Parliament in Classic Brown wallet | $89

Wallets don’t usually make it on my tech lists, but the Ekster Parliament, and their line of premium wallets, are different than the average cardholder.

The leather wallets feature a unique card mechanism, that fans out cards for easy access with the click of a button. On top of that, the wallet has RFID blocking technology, to keep card details from being skimmed, it’s made from environmentally certified leather, and you can add a tracker to the wallet so it’s easy to find if it’s ever lost.

And of course there’s space for cash, thanks to a bill fold, and additional cards or ID on the inside fold.

Neon87 Mini Neon Sign | $143

Neon87’s mini neon sign collection is a fun addition to any home or office. With dozens of designs, the small neon signs can fit on almost any wall, and they come in 10 colours, from natural white and electric blue, to hot pink and green.

Personally, I love the bright, clean look of electric blue.

Set the perfect mood and style for any space with a bright, vivid design that’s bold and fun. Neon87 also offers custom signs, whether you’re looking for a striking detail at an event, business, or just want to surprise your loved one with something unique.

TCL 20 Pro 5G | $844

The TCL 20 Pro 5G, and the cheaper TCL 20S, are two of my favourite phones of the year, for buyers on a budget who also want the best features for their new Android phone.

Beyond the 6.67″ bright AMOLED display on the TCL 20 Pro, the phone also has a 48 MP main camera, 6 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of internal memory, and that’s on top of a 4500 mAh battery, and in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone also uses clever software to optimize the display and colour for the best picture quality while you’re streaming, browsing, or gaming.

I also love TCL’s smart, easy-to-use interface and multitude of features. The 20 Pro in particular has an excellent night mode, good 4K video quality, and effortless selfies or portraits.

For $460, the TCL 20S is a lighter phone that’s not quite as robust as the 20 Pro, but it’s a great all-round device for anyone who just needs the basics. Plus, the 5000 mAh battery makes sure the phone will last for hours and hours.

Shark Air Purifier 6 | $599

Shark Air Purifier 6

It’s amazing the difference that an air purifier can make at home, and the new Shark Air Purifier 6 is a fully-featured workhorse that not makes a big difference thanks to the Clean Sense IQ, and true HEPA filter.

With four speeds, an auto mode, six powerful fans, remote control, and power to purify a room up to 1,200 square feet, the Shark Air Purifier 6 is an impressive device. It’s easy-to-use, and lets you know the air quality as it works, so you can better understand the results.

And the most impressive part? Shark’s Anti-Allergen Multi-Filter captures 99.97% of dust, dander, allergens, smoke, and household odours.

OnePlus 9 5G | $999

The OnePlus 9 5G is a fantastic phone that’s impressive, intuitive, smart, and fast.

For photographers, the natural color calibration with Hasselblad’s camera offers striking results. Paired with the fluid AMOLED 120 Hz display, and super fast charging, the OnePlus 9 delivers a lot for less than most phones.

The phone also has a sleek design, the interface makes sense and works easily, and I appreciated the entire package, including the fact that the phone comes with a charging brick that gets it from 0 to 100% charged faster than most other phones in the same price range.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds | $399

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2

For premium earbuds, it doesn’t get any better than the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2.

The earbuds come in the perfect case, they feature very impressive 7 mm dynamic drivers for deep bass and very clear audio, and last for up to 28 hours.

Paired with the excellent phone app, the earbuds work with Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri, they pause music or video when you remove an earbud, and they’re rated to IPX4 for splash resistance.

Finally, I love the built-in equalizer for adjusting music, movies, and gaming to the perfect experience. Next to every other earbud that I used this year, these were absolutely the best.

Worx Makerx Hobby Tool Kit | Starting from $169

Makerx from Worx are an affordable set of tools for any hobbyist who wants to get into woodworking, handy work, painting, and much more.

The basic kit includes the rotary tool and burning tool, or Worx also has kits available with a grinder, and an airbrush, plus one battery and charger. Or you can buy each one individually.

For anyone handy, or looking to get into crafts and other work, the tools are excellent, affordable, and it’s easy to add to the collection. They’re also versatile, and you can learn to use them at your own pace. The 20V batteries also work with all the devices, plus other Worx tools.
