Chefs Patrice Demers and Shobna Kannusamy talk Wall of Bakers

A new group of home chefs are facing the Wall with their best creations. This time it’s all about pastry though in the new Food Network series, Wall of Bakers.

The new 10-episode series is a spin-off from the popular Wall of Chefs, and also features Noah Cappe as the host, with 12 of Canada’s top pastry chefs. Some of the judges include Chef Ricardo Larrivée, Chef Anna Olson, Chef Patrice Demers, and Chef Shobna Kannusamy.

There’s a lot that goes into making the perfect pastry, and as Chefs Demers and Kannusamy said when I spoke to them about the series, it’s something else entirely to make a great dessert in a short amount of time.

“Even if you do a cake, then it needs to cook for sure,” Chef Demers said. “There’s a lot of stuff with pastry that either needs to be frozen or set in the fridge. That’s one thing that the contestants have to keep in mind, to be able to make a plate of dessert that’s ready to be served. I think that’s the big difference.”

“And patience,” Chef Kannusamy added. “For baking you need patience… it takes so much more prep. It’s more of a mindset.”

Watch the full interview with the chefs below to hear what they had to say about spending time with so many chefs, the challenges for the home cooks, and their top advice for anyone learning that wants to take their skills to the next level.

Wall of Chefs premiers on Food Network March 28 at 10:00 PM. Watch new episodes Monday nights.
