Parrot Cay: A perfect, private escape

by W. Andrew Powell

Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos is one of the most stunning, remarkable vacation resorts in the entire world. In fact, it feels like a disservice to simply call the property a resort. By comparison, it might be a little like calling a Rolls-Royce simply a car.

Located near Providenciales, in the northern Caribbean, Parrot Cay is a elegant resort destination combining peace, privacy, and the perfect atmosphere to make the most of your time away. With an understated, but stunning style, and A-class food and services, the exotic resort is an escape that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Taking a boat to the thousand-acre private island is the first step to your escape, and is little more than a thirty minute trip across the area’s pristine waters. Once you arrive, the resort staff will escort you to the main building where you can check in, and get acquainted with the property.

Divided between 42 rooms, 4 suites, 12 villas, plus 3 residences, which make up the Parrot Cay Estates, Parrot Cay has a number of options for couples, friends, or families traveling together.

While the rooms are incredibly luxurious, and come with samples of property owner COMO Shambhala’s stunning line of soaps and body care products, which I had to mention, you will want to spend most of your time exploring the tremendous property. Still, it is a wonderful thing to walk into your suite and feel, not so much that you are in a resort, but rather, visiting a contemporary cottage. That illusion is reinforced by the whitewashed walls, the artwork, the simple furnishings, and even down to the simple stone shower in the bathroom.

Exploring the property brings its own wonders. Whether you dine at the Lotus or Terrace Restaurants, enjoy a drink at the pool, wander the beach, or take in a massage at the award-winning spa, even a week might not be enough time to soak up all of the resort’s amenities. Just a few hours on the beach, listening to the surf and soaking in the sun, can do wonders for the soul.

Speaking of the food, I don’t think I have eaten so well in a long time. From breakfast at the resort’s main restaurant, which can also be delivered to your room, to the succulent dishes served for lunch and dinner, the menu is a rhapsody of fine tastes, highlighted by healthy choices. In particular, the resort has a wonderful selection of seafood dishes, but steak fanatics will not be disappointed as Parrot Cay has some delicious choices, including Kobe beef, veal, and organic steaks.

The spectacular staff, who are always quick to offer their assistance, or a smile, also help make Parrot Cay the wonderful destination that it is.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but the property is so expansive, and simply so magnificent, that it is hard to sum up the resort in a few hundred words. After spending just three days at the resort, I think I could write a book about this premier destination, which is why you can expect a few more articles from me about Parrot Cay.

While the property will not fit the needs of frugal travellers, there is no question that the exclusive resort exceeds all expectations.

Find out more about the resort on their website,, and check out a few pictures of the property below. Some of the current specials offered by the resort include:
