Sofia Boutella & Michiel Huisman on Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver | Interview

by W. Andrew Powell

Zack Snyder’s first Rebel Moon film brought a team of expert fighters together, and now in Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, they’re forced into an epic battle to save a village, against an empire, and its leader.

Stars Sofia Boutella and Michiel Huisman sat down to talk about the sequel, their characters’ relationship, and their favourite scene.

“My favourite part of her journey is to be able to explore something that was as dark as what was written and finding the ability or the opportunities to come out of it to the other side,” Boutella said.

“And because I wanted so desperately for her to have that chance for an alternative, I just enjoyed finding those little pockets of moments of joy, of happiness, and also for the journey of Gunnar and Kora.”

And while one scene took a long time to film, it stood out for the two stars.

“The first thing that comes to mind now is the final, final moments that we have with Noble [played by Ed Skrein],” Huisman said. That whole sequence takes place on the floor of the big spaceship as it’s tilting. So we had to shoot that [and] it took probably about a week or two to shoot the entire sequence.”

“The floor that we’re sliding down is green, like a tilted floor about 50 feet long, and we would have to walk up it every time, and it was was tough on the calves.”

“And it was a hike every single time, hiking for two weeks… that’s what we did,” Boutella added.

“We would literally hike up, hang at the top… waiting for camera to roll, and then we would just slide down and do our action,” Huisman said. “The way it came together in the edit, though, really blew my mind. I thought it looked so cool.”
