An RV for every adventure at the Toronto RV show

Toronto RV Show & Sale

My family has been dreaming of an RV adventure for a few years, so when I had the chance to check out the Toronto RV show today, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to do a little research and find out a bit more about all of the vehicle options for getaways.

Running now at the Toronto Congress Centre until Sunday, January 20th, the the show is one big showroom for RVs of every shape, size, and purpose. From the smallest tent trailer, and all the way up to fifth wheels and motorhomes, you can research and buy just about any type of recreational vehicle that your heart desires.

Offering most RVs at sale prices, you can walk right into the motorhomes and campers, check out the features, and speak to representatives who can give you a better idea about what each vehicle offers. There are more than 300 RVs on display at the show, plus camping supplies, lounge, and presentations from the experts.

Walking into a lot of the vehicles and campers, it’s easy to start imagining just how much fun it would be to go camping for a week, or the whole summer, in an RV. I’ve honestly never been camping in an RV, but the travel trailer size home (the ones that you likely most often see on the highway and at camp sites) really looks like it would be the perfect size for most families.

For families that have one destination in mind for the summer, the bigger destination trailers, that are meant to be towed and then parked for the summer in one place, are gorgeous and offer the most home-like setting for anyone looking to get away.

There’s also a lot to be said for tent trailers and hybrids, which are more affordable and lighter to tow, and even truck campers that go on the back of pickup trucks. For anyone just starting out, there are a lot of comforts in a small space, and the nice thing is that they don’t take up a lot of room either, when you store them or once you arrive at your destination.

The “wow” factor really kicked in for me though when I walked through the range of destination, travel trailers and fifth wheels. Some of these bigger types of vehicles have a perfect mix of size, space, features, and bathrooms and bedrooms that won’t feel too small.

The Forest River Columbus 340RK, which was on sale at the show with Gimme Shelter, has a gorgeous living, dining, and kitchen space, with a master bedroom that looks and feels like home.

My favorite RV was the 2019 Keystone Avalanche 320RS. The fifth wheel can be pulled with a 3/4 ton truck, and it has one of the most brightly-lit and gorgeous living spaces I saw at the show. The space looks like a modern condo, and it has the most incredible kitchen/living room setup.

I was also really impressed with the the 2019 Jayco Jay Flight 29RKS, which is one of the more affordable of my favourites that I saw at the show.

There’s more than just RVs to buy at the show though. There are also a number of vendors showing off products to make your next RV trip perfect. Do it yourself expert Natalie Ho also customized her dream RV, and it’s on display at the show, and anyone who visits has a chance to win the RV, which is valued at $20,000.

Plus, I chatted with the team from Outdoorsy, who work with RV owners to rent trailers and units out to the public. RV owners can choose when to make their trailer available for rent, and anyone who wants an RV getaway can browse a wide range of vehicles.

At the RV show, Outdoorsy had an absolutely amazing vintage 1976 Boler Wandervogel nicknamed the “Pumpkin Coach”.

This 13-foot trailer is compact and cute, and the owners have decorated the interior for that perfect getaway or road trip. It can even fit up to four, with two parents and two kids, thanks to a fold-out double bed and two bunk beds.

Looking for something bigger for the summer? The company has a huge range of RVs on their site, from Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalias to big, luxury coaches.

I didn’t end up buying any RVs on my visit to the Toronto RV show, but I certainly learned a lot, and maybe I’ll end up looking at renting one for the summer at the very least.
