Actor, writer and producer Seth MacFarlane hosted the 85th Academy Awards, which celebrated some of the best films of the last year with an all-star night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

This week on DVD and Blu-ray: Daniel Day-Lewis stars in the musical drama, Nine; things get a little strange in Terry Gilliam‘s Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus; and Steven Spielberg‘s moving war epic Saving Private Ryan arrives on Blu-ray.
Opening this week just in time for Christmas holidays, Robert Downey Jr. stars as tough but wise Sherlock Holmes; Daniel Day-Lewis stars in Rob Marshall‘s musical, Nine; plus a look at Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, It’s Complicated, Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and Up In The Air.
The oil trade gets a touch of evil this week as Daniel Day-Lewis‘ Oscar-winning role, from the film There Will Be Blood, arrives on DVD. Other notable new releases include the spoofy, music biopic, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, with an all too perfect John C. Reilly as Dewey; Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Earthy documentary, The 11th Hour; and the story of one mysterious critter’s birth into fame in The Water Horse.

We laughed, we cried, we bit our nails, and in the end, 2007 was a pretty good year at the movies. Of course we saw our fair share of the usual blockbuster Hollywood explosions, but this week I’m changing gears a bit to look back at the absolute best films of 2007.
