Porter Airlines launches their new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft today, flying from Toronto’s Pearson Airport to a number of new Canadian destinations for the first time.

New daily service from Pearson includes Ottawa and Montreal starting today, with four flights every day, Vancouver starting on February 7, Edmonton on February 14, Calgary on February 22, and Halifax on February 23.

Porter has also announced plans to expand to the southern United States, Mexico, as well as the Caribbean in the future, thanks to the new aircraft.

With a range up to 4,665 km, and a total of 132 seats, the new narrow body aircraft are also 65% quieter and up to 25% cleaner, and Porter plans to have 50 planes by the end of 2023, and up to 100 in the future.

The airline’s existing fleet of aircraft will also continue to fly from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

Beyond the sleek new aircraft, comfortable seats, and lots of legroom, Porter also announced a number of benefits for travellers, a new format for their perks program, the first free in-air Wi-Fi available in Canada, and food options for longer flights.

Meal options will include a selection of cheese from Toronto’s Cheese Boutique, entrees and side dishes, and a rotating selection of items like a chia smoothie bowl, ham and brie croissant breakfast sandwich, seven-layer dip, Korean cauliflower, Soba noodle bowl, tropical salmon poke, and vegetarian Buddha bowl.

Thanks to partnerships with Canadian brands, Porter will continue to offer complimentary beer and wine served in glassware from Beau’s Brewing Co., and Jackson-Triggs wines. New snacks will also be available, as well as teas, and other items like packaged oatmeal, pasta, and more.

For their perks program, the original PorterClassic remains the same as an “a la carte economy” option for travellers, and travellers have the option to purchase upgraded seats, the meals, and premium wine and cocktails.

When booking with the new PorterReserve, Porter is calling it the “all-inclusive economy” option, and it includes everything from checked bags, meals and premium wine, to a dedicated check-in, priority security where available, and early boarding.
