Five ways that you can support The GATE

The GATE is a passion project that started 22 years ago, developing from a collection of reviews to become a zine, and quickly evolving into something larger.

It means a lot to me to be here today, doing this, and watching as The GATE grows and changes, but it’s also always difficult to keep things going. The simple fact is that it’s a tough business, and publishing anything takes a lot of time and work.

Beyond my work, I also want The GATE to last so that it can offer a space for writers and creators to tell stories, but especially Canadian stories. In a nutshell, the whole point is to be a platform showcasing filmmakers, creators, and talent when there are less and less independent spaces to feature them, especially in Canada.

That’s why I wanted to share a few of the ways that readers and supporters can help The GATE. Memberships are important, and we would love to have you join as as a supporter, but there are a lot of things that will help.

Videos are one of The GATE’s cornerstones, and they have helped the site to thrive thanks to the revenue we make from them. Watching, liking, and sharing our videos goes a long way, and that’s especially true on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, or just watching a video interview on the website.

A few likes on social media go a long way. They’re free, they’re easy, and I really appreciate a follow or subscribing to The GATE on one of our social media channels. And even if you don’t follow us, a like or a share has a bigger impact. When you like a post, it can help to make sure more people see the post and interact with it, so every interaction helps.

Join us

The GATE launched membership options on our website and on YouTube, and it’s a vital way for us to grow, expand, and bring in more writers and creators.

The goal is to offer a few perks to make it interesting, but the main point is this: memberships for The GATE are important for us to continue. You can sign up for a monthly rate of $2 or $5, and we have a one-time rate for VIP membership.

You can also become a member on YouTube for a few perks, and to support our videos directly.

Ads and donations

For businesses that want to support The GATE, we accept ad campaigns and sponsored posts. There are lots of options for any budget, and aside from becoming a member, this is the best way to support us.
