Regina is the capital city of Saskatchewan, and it’s an incredible city with a really cool vibe. Known as Queen City, it is both the cultural and commercial hub for southern Saskatchewan. And with so many great things to do in Regina with kids, the family will have a difficult time deciding where to go first!

1. Crack the Case at the RCMP Heritage Centre

To learn all about Canada’s iconic national police service, head to the RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina. There, you can either take a guided tour or if you prefer, just walk through the exhibit hall on your own.

The Exhibit Hall features interesting facts, true stories, artifacts, interactive games, and virtual reality exhibits. Be sure to ask the staff for a scavenger hunt booklet for the kids! Once it’s filled out, they earn a small prize.

Using hands-on interactive displays, learn about the cutting-edge technology used to examine crime scenes at the Cracking the Case Exhibit. Or throw on a pair of virtual reality goggles where you can learn to drive a police car!

Interested in a tour? Hop aboard the electric “people mover” and enjoy a ‘behind the gates’ driving tour of the Training Academy. Stops include the RCMP Chapel, dormitories, classroom buildings, Drill Hall, Armory, firearms building, driving track, Officer’s Mess, ‘Depot’ Cemetery, and the riding stables.

2. See the World’s Largest T. Rex at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is an amazing place to learn about natural history, as well as the local Indigenous cultures. The museum is actually pay-by-donation, which makes it a very budget-friendly attraction for families.

The walkthrough exhibits are absolutely incredible! In the Life Science Gallery plants and animals are brought to life through carefully recreated habitats and landscapes.

The First Nations Gallery includes many amazing artifacts from local Indigenous groups, and goes into great detail describing the various First Nations cultures, and their way of life before European settlement.

Of course, what most kids are interested in seeing, is Scotty! He is a life-sized cast of the world’s largest T. rex. Excavated in Eastend, SK (1991), Scotty is 1 of 12 excavations of its kind, worldwide. Kids can learn all about how he lived, the size of his feet, and even what they found in his poop!

3. Watch a Football Game

Although curling is Saskatchewan’s official sport, football is also super popular here. In fact, Saskatchewan is known for being home to the most passionate fans in the league!

The Mosaic Stadium in Regina is home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Be sure to grab a jersey, and some green, black and white face paint, before catching a home game when you are in town!

4. Defy Gravity at the Saskatchewan Science Centre

Housed in a former power plant in the heart of Wascana Park, the Saskatchewan Science Centre is an interactive science museum the kids will love. This popular Regina attraction has over 180 hands-on exhibits, live stage shows, and demonstrations for kids, and adults alike.

The fixed exhibits showcase different scientific disciplines, with everything from space, to energy, to the wildlife of Saskatchewan.

The Space Stadium Canada exhibit is the heart of the display floor and explores the contributions that Canada has made to space exploration. Be sure to try out the gyro gym, a spinning device similar to one that was developed by NASA for astronaut training.

The Science Centre also includes many visiting exhibits. This means that there is always something new to learn about and play with at the Science Centre. The live demonstrations allow guests to learn about everything from cryogenics to air pressure to the sweet science of sugar.

5. Catch a Movie in an IMAX Theatre

The Kramer IMAX Theatre is Saskatchewan’s largest movie screen at 52′ tall and 73′ wide. Located next to the Saskatchewan Science Centre, there are usually at least 4 movies on offer, with a variety of showtimes available throughout the day.

If you have never seen a movie in IMAX before, it really is an incredible and immersive experience! Add the IMAX experience to your Science Centre visit, and don’t forget some popcorn and snacks for the perfect movie night with the family!
