Time for a little celebration dance, because 2018 was an incredible year for The GATE. And, yes, this may be a little late, but since I’m proud of all the highlights from last year, it’s taken me a while to write it all up.
October is one of my favorite times of the year. I love sweater weather, I adore Halloween, and Thanksgiving weekend is one of my favorite excuses to cook a great big meal for my family and be thankful for what we have while spending time together.
Bullitt was an iconic classic film starring Steve McQueen and featuring an incredible co-star, the 1968 Ford Mustang fastback. Now, Ford is honouring that classic car, and the film, with the brand new Mustang Bullitt, and I had a chance to get behind the wheel and drive away (okay, not really) for a few minutes at the Canadian International Auto Show.
There is an island on the edge of Canada that is unlike anywhere else in this beautiful country, and it’s my new happy place. Fogo Island is just a short ferry ride from Farewell, Newfoundland, but it feels like it’s a world away from anything else that you know. The quiet, serene island is a perfect balance of earth and sea, inhabited by kind, welcoming people, and filled with wonders that are often as simple as they are moving.
After the film festival has rolled up all the red carpets, I feel like I can usually breathe a sigh of relief and get down to the serious business of enjoying September and fall. It takes a little time after TIFF to really settle down, because there is a lot of content to deal with after the festival, but then I really feel like I can get into my favorite season.
Put me in a car, with the open road, and I may be just about the happiest guy around. My family and I went on a road trip, from Toronto to Sault Ste. Marie, and we drove a 2017 Ford Flex on an adventure that included parks, beaches, bugs, science, history, and a lot of fun together in our amazing province. It was a getaway that showed off why road trips can be so much fun, and why Ontario is such an incredible place to live.
What a perfect day for a drive. Ford invited me and my brother-in-law, Matthew, down to Toronto Motorsports Park on Wednesday to help celebrate Father’s Day, and as part of the fun they arranged track time for us behind the wheel of the 2017 Ford Mustang GT Premium Fastback and the Ford Focus RS.
Summer is around the corner, I just got back from a Canada 150 road trip with Ford, and there are only 85 days until the Toronto International Film Festival. There is a lot going on, but the festival is front of mind since I’m prepping The GATE’s Interview Lounge at TIFF, and my accreditation application came in Monday too.
Parents have been there time and again: it’s bed time and your little one just won’t fall asleep, but when they’re in the car, they seem to be able to fall asleep almost instantly. Some parents may resort to driving their wee ones around to get them to sleep, but Ford has unveiled a concept crib that may make bed time even easier.
