Hands on with the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G | Fast, impressive cameras, and all-day battery life

OnePlus launched their new flagship phone today, the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, offering compelling features and upgrades that will make it a popular choice with photographers and gamers.

The top features on the phone include the second-generation Hasselblad Camera, a 120 Hz display, HyperBoost Gaming Engine, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform, 65w charging, new modes for balancing work and life, three dark modes, and a vivid 6.7-inch QHD+ display featuring LTPO technology.

Hands on with my favourite features

The phone is very, very fast. You can measure the time between pressing the power button and the screen unlocking with your face in milliseconds, and app open just as quickly.

From the lock screen, opening the camera is faster than any competitor at the same price range, and the whole interface feels slicker and more refined than most of the other flagships out there.

The OnePlus 10 Pro has a fantastic 5,000 mAh battery that fully charges in 34 minutes, and it will easily last all day, even with fairly heavy usage, gaming, shooting video, and browsing social media.

Looking at the camera, it’s a big upgrade from the OnePlus 9 Pro. For one thing, the camera offers 10-bit colour using the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and 12-bit colour in Hasselblad Pro Mode. RAW and RAW+ modes allow you to capture incredible, high-quality images, and then edit them for higher quality results. I’m still testing shooting in these modes, but early I’m very impressed.

For videographers, you can also capture video in LOG format in Movie Mode, allowing you to also control shutter speed, ISO, and white balance while you film, and then apply your own colour grading when you edit the video.

One of the other big features that I love is the quality of the zoom. On a lot of phones, zooming in on a subject gets pretty pixelated and blurry after 2x zoom, but the OnePlus 10 Pro uses AI to improve camera results, making images clearer, even when zooming in 5x and more, and it offers good results up to 30x zoom.

The OnePlus 10 Pro also offers a photo field of view up to 150 degrees, for a fish-eye effects, wider than any camera I’ve ever seen on a phone, and up to 50 MP images in Photo mode.

I’ve been using the phone for a week and I’m very impressed with all of the features, the power, and the quality of the phone. It’s so fast, and there are so many features that I’ve barely covered them all here.

Plus, on top of everything else, the phone comes with a charging brick, so you won’t have to buy or find an alternative.

Availability

The OnePlus 10 Pro 5G is available in Volcanic Black and Emerald Forest for $1149 CAD and $899 USD. You can preorder the phone today, and it will ship on April 14.
