On the south side of downtown Halifax, The Halliburton Hotel is one of the city’s most unique boutique hotels, with a style, warmth, and character that is so refreshing.

The hotel has so much charm because it’s not simply a square block building. Instead, The Halliburton is three heritage townhouses dating back to 1809 that have been converted to offer 29 guest rooms and suites, plus upscale dining at their restaurant, Stories.

Located a short walk from Halifax’s vibrant waterfront and the heart of the city, The Halliburton feels like a home away from home, with charm, character, and rooms that speak to the history of the buildings. The beds are cozy, the rooms are well decorated and feature antiques and art, and I love the quiet garden where you can sit and enjoy a tea or coffee before you start exploring Halifax.

When you arrive at the hotel to check in, you’ll enter through the main hotel lobby, a brick building featuring the restaurant, front desk, and a sitting area with coffee and tea. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and happy to help with requests, and you can order breakfast boxes from the desk to enjoy in your room or in the back garden.

The hotel offers a range of rooms, from their Petite or Queen Rooms with a single bed, One Bedroom suites, a Studio Suite with a kitchenette and two beds, or their Grand Suite, and they all offer a similar warm, vibrant aesthetic.

My family and I stayed at the hotel twice during our trip to Halifax and Cape Breton, and we had the chance to try a One Bedroom suite, as well as the Studio Suite, and we loved the character of the spaces. The rooms speak to the history of the city, and match the hotel’s heritage beautifully.

The rooms also offer ideal hotel amenities, like a coffee maker, hairdryer, dependable Wi-Fi, and pleasant decor, but feel like an upscale inn thanks to touches that make the room feel very homey.

Our One Bedroom suite included a separate room with a double bed for our daughter, while we had a queen bed in the main room with a sitting area, and nice, antique furniture.

During our other stay at the hotel, the Studio Suite offered a nice, large space for our family, and it includes a main living space with sitting area, queen bed, and the bathroom, plus another bedroom upstairs. The entryway includes the kitchenette with a stove, small fridge, microwave, and the basics for preparing a simple meal.

It was a great space for us to prepare for the day and unwind at the end of it. We also appreciated the full bathrooms that included a tub in both suites.

The Halliburton is an incredibly charming hotel, and they offer packages with a three course meal at Stories Restaurant, or dinner and theatre with your stay, so you can make the most of your stay.

What stands out to me is that the hotel is the perfect place for travellers who want a unique, friendly, welcoming experience while visiting Halifax. There’s charm and character here that you won’t find at larger hotels, and a stay here requires a visit to Stories so you can try their remarkable, ever-changing menu.
