Peter Dacunha at the GATE's Interview Lounge

Welcome to the second day of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. It seems like I'm overdue for posting an update, so here's the run down of the last 24 hours which have been filled with movies, interviews, and The GATE's Interview Lounge.

Like the holiday season, the lead-up to the Toronto International Film Festival seems to start earlier and earlier if you're a journalist in Toronto.

"Take On Me" for TIFF 2015

This is not a drill. We're three days away from the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, and while the panic sets in for some of us (organizers, PR folks, and media) it's still the most wonderful time of the year.

This is a big year for the Toronto International Film Festival, with the former "Festival of Festivals" celebrating its 40th anniversary, and it just wouldn't be the same without a few filmmaking luminaries and celebrities. As always, there are a lot of stars planning to visit this September for the parties, red carpets, screenings, and everything in between, and we've got the complete list of expected guests to help you plan your star-gazing adventures.

Ethan Hawke as Chet Baker in Born to Be Blue

Throughout the forty years of the Toronto International Film Festival, the developing and fostering and incubating of Canadian films and Canadian cinematic talent has always been an important priority, and because of that this year's terrific line-up of Canadian films can be seen as a direct pay off of all those past efforts and the need to keep TIFF a Canadian film festival--one that celebrates international films and film culture probably better than just about any other festival in the world, while remaining still a Canadian film festival.

Russell Crowe at TIFF 2006

For as long as I've been running The GATE, I've been covering the Toronto International Film Festival. It's a highlight of my year, a struggle, a challenge, and one of the best events I have the honour of attending and covering.

TIFF 2015 Programmers

The lineup for the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival will be announced over the next few weeks, leading up to the launch on September 10, and behind those selections for this year's 40th anniversary festival are the programmers. The 22 programmers are the people who make the real hard choices, picking the best films submitted to the festival.
