Tell Me Your Secrets | Review

by Andrew Parker February 18, 2021
by Andrew Parker February 18, 2021

Overwrought, overlong, and morally dubious, Tell Me Your Secrets is a forced, sleazy thriller with all the ridiculousness and depth of a daytime soap opera.

    Greenland | Review

by Andrew Parker February 3, 2021
by Andrew Parker February 3, 2021

Better than most other large scale disaster films out there, Greenland shifts its focus away from an abundance of speaker rumbling explosions and near misses (although there are plenty of those still to be found) and towards the feelings and reactions of the human beings experiencing them.

    Palm Springs | Review

by Andrew Parker December 16, 2020
by Andrew Parker December 16, 2020

Palm Springs is a rom-com for nihilists, and I mean that as a positive.

    Sound of Metal | Review

by Andrew Parker November 18, 2020
by Andrew Parker November 18, 2020

One of the most layered, best performed, technically complex, and thoroughly convincing dramas of the year, director and co-writer Darius Marder’s Sound of Metal is an absolute powerhouse of a film.

    Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm | Review

by Andrew Parker October 23, 2020
by Andrew Parker October 23, 2020

Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is either the most or least necessary sequel, depending on your feelings about subversive, guerilla, cringe comedy.

    Time | Review

by Andrew Parker October 15, 2020
by Andrew Parker October 15, 2020

Not only is Garrett Bradley’s revolutionary documentary Time one of the best films ever made about the need for prison reform and the racist underpinnings of the American judicial system, but it’s also a work of profound introspection and boundless love.

    Evil Eye | Review

by Andrew Parker October 14, 2020
by Andrew Parker October 14, 2020

While it isn’t particularly chilling and no one would ever call it stylish, the half-psychological-half-supernatural thriller Evil Eye stands out thanks to some great performances, an underrepresented cultural perspective, and the overall thoughtfulness and depth of its material.
