The Iron Sheik is a legend of the WWF wrestling ring, and over two decades he played the part of the villain opposite Hulk Hogan’s shining good-guy routine. Khosrow Vaziri, the man behind the Iron Sheik persona, has a much larger story than playing the heel though, and it all comes out in the documentary, The Sheik.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a perfect example of why movie ratings are sometimes useless concepts when applied to the real world where films are rarely easy to summarize with one little number. Is it a good film or not? That depends on a lot of things, including how much you enjoyed the original Spider-Man films.
Let me state right off the top that I believe William Friedkin’s film Sorcerer is not only one of his best films but probably one of the most overlooked films of the classic packed era of the 70s. This tough, relentless adventure film is both epic in scope and claustrophobic and intense at the same time and for decades (part of the reason it is so overlooked is that it was released almost exactly as Star Wars hit the theatres in 1977) this film had not been given a proper home video release because of rights issues between the two studios that financed the movie.
Whether you like it or whether you aren’t so taken with it, The Wizard of Oz is one of the most enduring classics in cinema history, and that fact is not really up for dispute. This 1939 musical film was hailed in its day as a technological marvel because of its use of colour and make-up effects and those very elements of the film are just as evident today, in watching the new Warner Bros. Blu-ray 3D remastered version, as they were 75 years ago.
Disneynature’s Bears opens in theatres today, and follows the first year of a mother brown bear and her two cubs living within the beautiful vista that is Alaska. Featuring actor John C. Reilly as the narrator, who explains the lives of the animals, and fills in some of the imagined inner-thoughts of the beautiful creatures, the film is a postcard from the wild that offers a rare glimpse into the lives of brown bears.
Kicking off in a local dump, Trailer Park Boys: Don’t Legalize It revolves around the three incredible buffoons: John Paul Tremblay as Julian, Robb Wells as Ricky, and Mike Smith as Bubbles as they try to get along after all these years. They’re also doing their best to stay out of jail, but you can probably guess how that will turn out.
The third and final trailer for Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past launched earlier this week, and it’s a big one, whether you’re a fan of the original comic books or coming in brand new.
Maleficent star Elle Fanning recently visited Disneyland for the Disney Social Media Moms Conference, and to share footage from the film. Since Fanning stars as Aurora in the prequel, the iconic character from Sleeping Beauty, she also stopped to pose for photos in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle.
After thirty years the Muppets remain a force in popular culture–not just as entertainment for kids, but these latter big screen offerings seem to be aimed at an audience that is divided equally amongst kids and the adults who have grown up with the Muppets all these decades.
The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood played host to the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2, bringing together a star-studded group of stars, filmmakers, and special guests to honour the best of film from the last year.
