Sorcerer

Blu-ray Review: William Friedkin’s ‘Sorcerer’

Let me state right off the top that I believe William Friedkin’s film Sorcerer is not only one of his best films but probably one of the most overlooked films of the classic packed era of the 70s. This tough, relentless adventure film is both epic in scope and claustrophobic and intense at the same time and for decades (part of the reason it is so overlooked is that it was released almost exactly as Star Wars hit the theatres in 1977) this film had not been given a proper home video release because of rights issues between the two studios that financed the movie.

Wizard of Oz - 75th Anniversary Companion

‘The Wizard of Oz’ turns 75

Whether you like it or whether you aren’t so taken with it, The Wizard of Oz is one of the most enduring classics in cinema history, and that fact is not really up for dispute. This 1939 musical film was hailed in its day as a technological marvel because of its use of colour and make-up effects and those very elements of the film are just as evident today, in watching the new Warner Bros. Blu-ray 3D remastered version, as they were 75 years ago.

Disneynature’s ‘Bears’: Interview with Jeff Young at the Toronto Zoo

Disneynature’s Bears opens in theatres today, and follows the first year of a mother brown bear and her two cubs living within the beautiful vista that is Alaska. Featuring actor John C. Reilly as the narrator, who explains the lives of the animals, and fills in some of the imagined inner-thoughts of the beautiful creatures, the film is a postcard from the wild that offers a rare glimpse into the lives of brown bears.

John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells and Mike Smith

Review: ‘Trailer Park Boys: Don’t Legalize It’ starring John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells, Mike Smith

Kicking off in a local dump, Trailer Park Boys: Don’t Legalize It revolves around the three incredible buffoons: John Paul Tremblay as Julian, Robb Wells as Ricky, and Mike Smith as Bubbles as they try to get along after all these years. They’re also doing their best to stay out of jail, but you can probably guess how that will turn out.
